The benefits of appointing Department Champions can help a member of staff to develop in their current role further and add to existing responsibilities whilst assisting with managing a whole school resource or project.

Department Champions work with colleagues, sharing workloads across the subject area by setting assignments for the whole department to use and pin-pointing relevant content using the content PDF lists. They can support their departments by creating a bank of assessments for subject teachers to duplicate and set for their own classes.

We recommend you look for the following characteristics when you choose your department champion.

  • Organisational skills

  • Good communicator

  • An individual looking to progress their leadership skills or build on existing ones

  • A newly qualified teacher looking for additional responsibilities

  • Someone who is impact-driven

  • An individual wanting role development

  • Motivated, enthusiastic, influential and dedicated
