Create an assignment from scratch

Follow these steps to set up your own custom assignment.

To set up an assignment from scratch, first follow the steps below to choose between generating an assignment with our AI Assistant or creating your own:

  1. Click Assess from the menu on the left, then Assignments.

  2. Click Create Assignment and select Create an assignment from scratch.

  3. Click Continue.

  4. Choose between the two options:

    • Generate an assignment with our AI Assistant

    • Create my own questions and assign videos

Creating the assignment using AI

  1. Select Generate an assignment with our AI Assistant.

  2. Select a subject from the Select Subject dropdown and, if available, an exam board.

  3. Choose the relevant options from the Unit and Topic dropdowns and click Continue.

  4. Under Assignment type, select one of the below:

    • Free text only

    • Multiple choice only

    • Mixture of both

  5. Enter the number of questions you want the AI Assistant to generate.

  6. Select a difficulty:

    • Easy

    • Medium

    • Hard

  7. Click Generate assignment.

  8. Wait for the system to generate the questions and then click Continue.

  9. (Optional) You can also click Generate another question to add a new AI generated question or click Add blank question to add a custom question.

  10. Click the plus icon next to the videos you want to add to the assignment, then click Continue.


Creating your own assignment

  1. Select Create my own questions and assign videos.

  2. Choose a subject from the Select Subject dropdown.

  3. Click the dropdown at the top to decide whether the question is multiple choice or free text.

  4. Type your question and answers.

  5. Click AI Assistant if you want to add more detail to the question or increase the clarity. Below are all the options under AI Assistant:

    • Add more details

    • Increase clarity

    • Enable multiple correct answers

    • Make tone more academic

    • Increase difficulty

    • Decrease difficulty

  6. Click Create Question to add a new question to the assignment.

  7. Click Import from CSV to upload a file of your questions.

  8. When done, click Continue.


Publish the assignment

Regardless of the option you've selected, once all questions have been set up, follow the steps below to finish and publish the assignment:

  1. Enter a name in the Assignment title field.

  2. Set a start and end date.

  3. Click Add next to Classes and Students and Additional Markers to add students and markers for this assignment.

  4. Enable or disable the Preferences below:

    • Enable AI marking for open-text answers: When enabled, open-text responses in this assignment will be automatically analysed and prepared for your review.

    • Randomise questions and answers: Mixes up the order of questions and answer options for a unique experience for every student.

    • Control when results are released to Students: A great way to avoid cheating. By ticking this box you stop the results of the assignment from being automatically given to the students on submission. Instead, you will be able to release the results at any time you want. If you wish, you can keep the result hidden indefinitely.

    • Do not allow late submissions: When enabled, students will no longer be able to submit the assignment once the deadline has passed.

  5. When done, click Publish Assignment.

  6. You can now copy the link to the assignment or share it directly to Google Classroom or Teams.
